The Moshi Moshi Curve Handset: A Brand New Way To Bluetooth

“Native Union’s Moshi Moshi MM03”: handset is a sleek new addition to the upper end of the Bluetooth headset market. It’s not so much a headset as a sort of retro throwback phone with a base. Designed by French designer David Turpin, it’s an interesting conversation piece, but also quite usable.

One of the features we loved about the MM03 was the inclusion of Bluetooth Version 2.1 and EDR multi-point technology, allowing the device to be synch to two Bluetooth-capable devices. So, you can connect the handset with two separate sources- for instance, your smartphone and another VoIP-enabled laptop or device. This also means that you can switch from one conversation on one paired device to another conversation quickly. Using the MM03 means that you are now free to access all the features of your phone while making a call- a problem with some phones more than others, but it’s always annoying to listeners when you are tapping on the screen. The built-in noise reduction system allows you to have clean and clear conversations with the handset- you’re most likely not going to be doing taking this out in the wind or difficult conditions, but regardless, folks on the other end reported clear reception and transmission.

The MM03 also comes with an auto-reconnect function that we appreciated. This function allows the handset to automatically reestablish a connection when the devices it’s paired to is in range. Pretty basic, but helpful. The handset also comes with a convenient one-touch button for call pick-up and hang-up. Volume control buttons are nicely-placed on the handset as well. The weighted recharging base also serves as a holder for the set; we left it there most of the time and it recharges quickly and offers about six hours of talk time per charge.

We found the MM03 Moshi Moshi Curve a pleasure to use, and an interesting alternative to normal headsets. Ours was black, but it’s also available in white – sadly no other colors. At under $100 and available online from Amazon and others, it’s a gift for designers and folks with a home office; those on-the-go should explore any of the many other Bluetooth options.
