Holiday Cheer for the Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex SE 1 TB USB

A little over a year ago we shared our holiday cheer for the Seagate FreeAgent Go Drives, arguably some of the best data storage devices on the market. We have come to yet again share some more yuletide and possible gift ideas including Seagate’s GoFlex line. Our main focus is on the Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex 1TB USB 3.0 External Hard Drive.

Portability is key with Seagate’s GoFlex line-up which includes a range of 350 GB all the way up to a 1TB capacity, USB 2.0 or USB 3.0. We had the pleasure of utilizing the limited edition model in black and it’s pretty compact and truly portable. Sleek and small weighing in at around a pound, this portable solution is the answer to maybe not all of life’s problems, but at least any pressing storage dilemma you might encounter- and a whole terabyte of storage is nothing to laugh at, offering enough for even the most diehard file collector.

With this latest GoFlex ultra portable drive you don’t have to be stuck with outdated transfer methods as USB 3.0 comes standard on it, and is backwards compatible with USB 2.0 ports. Because there is no built-in interface, you can swap cables to FireWire 800, eSATA, and USB 3.0. USB 2.0 has been an industry standard for many consumers due to the price for additional ports, but is slowly going out of style and most newer machines have moved onwards and upwards.

We were able to enjoy the drive in connected to our TV, in combination with the GoFlex TV unit, which we’ve tested before. Watching Netflix is a guilty pleasure of ours, especially when we are supposed to be busy reviewing- though in this case, it was for purposes pertaining to this review.

Both PCs and Macs can take advantage of the GoFlex though its shipping drives are formatted in Windows NTFS format. When it arrives, you can easily reformat it to work singularly on the Mac and most importantly, as a Time Machine backup drive.

Available from Amazon and other retailers for $110 or so, you can even choose from a 1.5TB version, and also a blue model. No matter what you are doing this holiday season, whether it’s digital video or photography, or just in a need of a gift, Seagate offers great storage value.
