Cocoon Innovations Makes Organization Trendy

For functionality and versatility, we’ve been using the latest and greatest from Cocoon Innovations to help our organization- with our iPhone, netbook, or even our newest toy, the iPad.

“Apple’s iPad was this year’s most anticipated tech item, and we were excited to be a part of the excitement by designing exclusive iPad cases that remain consistent with Cocoon’s concept of stylish, functional, innovative organization,” says Philip Petracca, Vice President of Product Development for Cocoon Innovations. “With the Gramercy and Harlem iPad bags, named after two of New York City’s most popular neighborhoods, Cocoon takes organization to the next level, not only providing a stylish case for gear but also innovating the design to incorporate organization options for other tech accessories and personal items carried everyday.”

We get to pass on the word about the ‘Harlem’ and the ‘Gramercy’, suitable pretty much regardless of where you live. The Harlem iPad Sling is a sling type carrier that offers trendy looks but both men and women can wear without the whole “is it a purse or is it a murse?” kind of confusion that can happen. It holds up to a 10” netbook or an iPad.

We liked the whole of the Harlem, from the stitching to the clever compartments. A word to all you hoarders out there; this is not the type of bag you can go overboard with. It is designed truly for your iPad and a minimal amount of extras (meaning you can bring the smaller digital camera, a Kindle, Kleenex, and chewing gum but not your entire desktop). An accessory pocket on the front allowed for credit cards, camera, pens, etc. A small, thinner pocket on the outside offers iPhone or media player storage and a thoughtful water resistant headphone cable opening.

What entices us most about the Harlem and Cocoon in general is the Grid-It organizer panels. In this case, they are made specifically to fit the accessory pocket. You can remove the organizer system if you so choose but we find them to be handy, generally, as long as you are trying to fit more than a couple of things in. The elastic bands allow you to store whatever you deem worthy and you can pull it all out of the pocket on an elastic platter and serve it up. Another cool feature of the Grid-It is that it doubles as a mousepad for when you’re on the go.

We even felt comfortable with the shoulder strap though we were disappointed there was no padding. It is decently priced to boot- you can purchase the Harlem on Amazon for $49. It is available in black, gray, and red.

If you prefer to be seen in a messenger-type bag, look no further than the Cocoon Gramercy. Don’t get us wrong, if you are into customization, the Timbuktu Classic Messenger offers quite a bit more- you can choose the material used, panel choices, and adjustments for right-or left-handed use. If you are looking to purchase a substantially cheaper bag that combines all the great features of a typical Cocoon organizational storage, the Gramercy deserves some attention.

The water resistant nylon had a clear, windowed front screen that allowed us to easily access our device by using the front screen as a touchscreen. Our iPhone was secure and snug in it’s Cocoon (literally and figuratively speaking) and we could use our iPhone without any hassle. You can also use the iPod Touch and most smartphones.

The center part can hold a device typical of the size of an iPad or netbook and the back section can fit anything from a magazine to our leather binder. The same great Grid-It organizational system is also found on the Gramercy.

For around $30 from Cocoon directly we felt like we were getting a bargain. It is available in three two-toned colors; red with brown, black with yellow, and gray with orange.
