Streamlining Your Office Job At Home Or On The Go with DocuMate
Office equipment can all too easily end up instilling fantasies of tearing the pieces apart, perhaps thanks in part to the movie Office Space. Every time the hated copy machine decided to jam up or another important document got lost in Faxland, it’s nice to have an outlet to make sure it didn’t make the same mistake again. So we tend to go through office equipment fairly quickly.

Luckily, some relief is in sight: we were much obliged by the Xerox DocuMate 3115. Not only is this little guy (or gal) mobile and amazingly lightweight (less than 4 pounds), but it is a color scanner that offers an ADF (automatic document feeder) in the docking station. If you happen to be a road warrior, take just the USB-powered scanner along. An added bonus is that the DocuMate 3115 coexists peacefully with both Mac and Windows operating systems. You can now streamline your office to the best of your ability.
The included versatile software, Visoneer’s OneTouch, allows the user to scan to the one of the six locations of their choice by utilizing a single button. We didn’t have to take all of the usual requisite steps and the correct settings were already in place for a stream of changes we could make including the color, cropping, resolution, and file format. We were then able to transfer to our choice of folder or location. The bundled software includes many choices such as Nuance, PaperPort, OmniPage Pro, and NewSoft Presto. Visioneer OneTouch combined with Kofax to bring us BizCard, an enhanced TWAIN and WIA driver. Mac users are supported effortlessly with ExactScan, a driver and capture application that integrates with the OneTouch scanning buttons. All of these software programs might sound like a lot, but each offers a purpose- OCR (optical character recognition) for example.
Another attractive feature is the fairly large feeder tray for such a small model: 20 pages can sit inside while waiting to be sent to our computer at a stupendous rate of 15 pages per minute. We will suggest checking over your settings carefully- anti-skew can definitely help if the feeder is grabbing the images at an angle. If not, you might get better results by disabling that feature. We also had at least one jam- easy enough to fix though, and we liked that this model didn’t need any consumables (nothing extra to buy in the future).
Overall, this is the perfect tool for running your office at home or on the go. A desk job is just not what it used to be and you can accomplish all your tasks simply and effortlessly with the Xerox DocuMate 3115. For those of you looking to network at the various conferences and seminars you attend, we suggest you take a look at a single-purpose scanner, aimed at helping people who handle a lot of business cards. The Xerox Card Scanner 200 has flexible settings and the hardware was durable, offering plenty of speed- it could churn through cards, taking about three seconds each at a lower resolution.
You can purchase the DocuMate 3115 online from Amazon for around $350, less than some of the competition with a solid feature set.
