Power Tool or Vacuum? Let Dyson Help You Decide!
As Earth Day has passed us by for another year, we still revel in items designed to be energy star efficient. The new Dyson DC31 handheld vaccuum packs a powerful punch and has an energy star qualified battery charging system.

Besides its good earthly intentions, we must say from the looks of the handheld Dyson DC31, we couldn’t tell if we were using a power tool or a vacuum cleaner. It vaguely resembled something from dad’s garage. It was sleek and lightweight, weighing in at a mere 2.9 pounds, and boasts an unusual gun grip. For the most part we really liked the way it feels in hand, but there are a few positions that can feel awkward at times.
This new vacuum promises to be a revelation in the cleaning industry, and we intended to find out if it could live up to the hype. It has a dual power mode that allows for 10 minutes of high constant suction or 6 minutes with 70% higher suction. This is well and great for getting pet hair or cleaning up a pot you knocked over, but not a significant amount of time for cleaning more than a few spots. We were able to easily vacuum out our car in that amount of time, but for those of you driving gas-guzzling SUV’s with 3 rows of seats and lots of cargo space, we wish you good luck.
The new Dyson digital motor also cleans 3x as fast as a standard handheld vacuum. Though we appreciated the motor size, the noise was a hindrance. We wish it were more of the strong, silent type. What we were impressed with most was the overall design and the fact that this vacuum suctioned up dirt and cat hair better than most. We loved that it was bagless and had a washable filter.
There is nothing more annoying than changing bags and having to try and empty them without spilling what you just sucked up. The vacuum was easy to empty as it required only the manuvering of a lever, making it considerably more hygienic than your typical vacuum. Now if only we had a robot to spot clean our rooms instead of just our litter boxes!
We were able to purchase on Amazon for around $200. The vacuum does come with a 2 year warranty. You can also purchase it directly from Dyson.
For the price, we would consider spending the extra few hundred and purchase a upright Dyson. Though this is lightweight and efficient for small spaces, it can only clean a small area at any given time and only contains a ten-minute battery life that takes 3 hours to charge.
