Soundtracking Your Skiing with Maze Audio Snow Helmets
It’s officially spring, which means summer is just around the bend. Some of you may feel that being just a few days into the new season is perhaps a bit too early to feel nostalgic for the snowy goodness of winter, and you’re probably correct. Be that as it may, we won’t be stopped from talking about our new cold weather gear. Fortunately, winter sports like snowboarding aren’t limited to the few months of winter. Some of the best riding (and lift tickets) can be found later in the spring, just before everything melts for the year. Of course we want you to be safe when you hit the slopes, and what better place to start than at the top?
Smith Optics brings us Maze Audio Snow Helmets, which is one of the slimmest and lightest snowboarding and skiing helmets on the market. It weighs in at just 11.5 ounces and seriously feels like you’ve got nothing on when you’re wearing it. Better yet, it’s compatible with the Skullcandy Twin Tip audio system. So, while you’re shredding down the bunny hill or tearing up the half-pipe you can have the same soundtrack that Shaun White gets in all of those videos he’s in. (Because in our minds we’re all that good, right?) While you’re at it, how about taking the helmet-cam for a spin, because your greatness should absolutely be documented!
It’s hard to make something as low-profile as this helmet is and still get a lot of functionality out of it. Smith Optics made a really good attempt at it though. This helmet has 9 vents using the AirEvac 2 ventilation system. What this means for you is that there’s great temperature control, resulting in less fogging of your goggles, and increased comfort while wearing it. The removable goggle lock was the best solution for keeping your goggles in place. The most remarkable thing about this helmet though, is how little you’ll notice it. We were able to forget that it was on at all, and in a world full of goofy headwear, it’s nice to be able to lose the self-consciousness that comes from wearing a helmet. It does run just a bit small, so we’d recommend trying one on if possible, or going a size up, especially if you find that hats are a bit tight on you.
