Convenience and Goodness: King Arthur Flours
We are a house that is slightly divided when it comes to boxed mixes. Some of us here at Truly Obscure really love the convenience of packaged mixes, and some of us are a bit more snobbish puritan in our cooking and baking endeavors, and like to make everything from scratch. We were all excited about our selection of King Arthur Flour products though. The purist among us already has extensive experience with King Arthur’s primary ingredients like flour and cornmeal, and the rest of us really loved the selection we had to choose from. Everything required only a few basic ingredients like butter, milk, and eggs to be on hand.

First up we tried out the Cape Cod Cranberry-Orange muffins. These were very easy to make, and didn’t require any special equipment. Even if you aren’t equipped with muffin tins you could easily make this into a coffee-cake style bread, and there are clear directions for either choice on the box. There are no strange additives or preservatives in this, or any of the products we tried. The ingredient list is exactly like one might use to make muffins from scratch. They had a very nice texture and taste, and kept well for the couple of days that it took to eat them all.
Next we tried the Brioche rolls. We were excited about this product in particular because brioche is traditionally a somewhat tricky bread to make. Again, a very simple ingredient list for the mix, and only a few ingredients needed additionally.
King Arthur guarantees success with their yeast breads, and we were no exception. Our brioche rolls came out tender and tasty! We didn’t have brioche pans, so we used our muffin tin. However, in addition to mixes and individual ingredients, you can also find kitchen accessories (such as brioche pans) on the King Arthur Flour website.
The Lemon Honey Bundt Cake was perhaps the least favorite of everything, and really there was not much negative we could even come up with. They were a bit bland, but pleasant- we wished it had a bit more lemony punch to it, and could likely be remedied simply by adding a bit of additional lemon juice or extract to the mix before baking.
All of these are available at most major grocery stores and markets, as well as on the King Arthur Flour website. Prices range from $5.95- $9.95 for each mix. Give them a try next time you need something that is tasty, wholesome and easy to make!

Glad you are pleased with some of our mixes. Can I entice you to try one of our scone mixes next? EFB @ KAF
