Pretty in Pink... Headphones (with Fuzzy Zebra-Striped Ear Cushions)

These headphones are just too cool for me. That was my realization upon receiving a new set of customizable iFrogz EarPollution Nerve Pipes headphones. Thinking perhaps that the 80’s might be back in style again, iFrogz decided to offer an alternative to the barely-visible earbuds with these petite, but highly eye-catching listening devices.

Spending time on the iFrogz website is more fun than most free online games. You can adjust the chrome headband, the sidepieces, the hinges, the speakers, the ear cushions, and there’s even some really spiffy artwork they can add on the side. What your headphones will look like is generated right on the screen so you can see if your freakier color combinations will clash or mesh. They’ve even recently released a set of fuzzy ear cushions that are as comfy as they are cool.

The artwork and design is truly fantastic, hence the reason they are too cool for yours truly. Zebra patterns, swirling pinks, dragons, and toxic waste symbols can all be incorporated into your headphones. I would love to see them go the next logical step and allow you to upload and add your own artwork, but for now their designs are so much greater than any design I could upload that I can’t complain.

iFrogz’s emphasis is indeed mostly on style, but the sound quality is good enough to please the average college student trying to not piss off their sleeping roommate by playing video games and/or loud music at 2 a.m. It is about what you would expect from a stylin’ pair of $34.99 headphones. The materials are also in the just good enough category. These aren’t headphones you buy for life, or even ten years, they’re the ephemeral headphones whose not-so-sturdy plastic will die out when the trends do.

Despite being custom-ordered, they arrived quite fast. These headphones also seem like the perfect bribe. I can imagine parents saying, “I’ll buy you a pair of EarPollution headphones if you just promise to use them.” Available online.
