Outdoors with North Face's Kazoo
It’s a bit of a silly name for a sleeping bag, to be sure, but it kind of fits. This baby is bright green, the sort of green that makes your bag easy to spot from a distance. You might think the bag itself glows in the dark, but nope- the zipper pull does though! It’s been a while since our last sleeping bag look, but as Spring comes, so does our renewed desire to commune with mosquitoes and sunburn.
North Face makes a wide variety of excellent gear, and really, this sleeping bag felt kind of like stepping into one of their comfy down-filled jackets. They claim to use only Eastern European goose down, and the green color represents the interesting fact that 100% of the fabrics are recycled. We really liked the silky interior (thankfully, not green), and what they call the “No Snag stiffener in the zipper column”- basically what it sounds like, and it makes the package feel solid and durable.
Unlike some bags, this one offers a storage sack that is a cinch to roll up and put away, though that means the bag is a bit larger than you may be used to (also included is the more traditional siliconized bag). The Kazoo is a three season bag, meant for weather above 15 degrees F or -10 degrees C. We didn’t try it out in cold weather, but cool nights were totally comfortable. Taller folks (those above 6 foot) should consider paying the bit extra for the long version. At around $225, this is a nice all-around sleeping bag, and you can feel a bit better knowing that even your sleeping bag is eco-friendly.
