Chocolate Choices: Tea Room and Knipschildt

We never stop searching for new and interesting foods. The Fancy Food Show was a great place to look, and was responsible for helping us to get in touch with a number of products featured in recent and upcoming articles. Today, we’re taking a look at two chocolatiers.

Though their name might not immediately scream ‘chocolate’, The Tea Room is actually well-recognized for their selection of truffles, and especially their tea-infused chocolate bars. They offer 8 varieties of organic blends, from the Masala Chai Milk Chocolate, to a Jasmine & Tangerine Milk Chocolate combination and a Red Raspberry Rooibos Dark Chocolate bar. We found their cocoa to be of a pretty high quality- even the milk chocolate bars tasted excellent, and we are pretty big fans of higher percentage dark chocolates. In fact, one of the favorites ended up being the Bedouin Mint bar, which was milk chocolate and smooth- kind of like the ‘Better than Sex’ tea that we’ve raved about- only in a nice, semi-solid form. Nice, classy packaging, and a convenient sampler pack makes a great gift for the chocolate and tea lover among your friends. $3.35/each or $27.20 for the 8-piece box. Available online or in their store.

If tea-infusing and chocolate bars don’t grab your attention, how about oversized truffles? Knipschildt Chocolatier offers a 9-piece Giant Chocolate Box, which includes 4 flavors- a mocha with rich dark chocolate ganache, marzipan with fresh lemon with milk chocolate, black currant with dark chocolate ganache, and and almond/hazelnut/praline (with a hint of raspberry). We couldn’t keep the interns away from these and they disappeared at a speed that made us wonder if they were quite large enough. Certainly, once we managed to get some thoughts, the consensus was that these were the real thing- fresh, clean flavors, balanced and not too sweet or bitter. They could have been better presented- the packaging and overall look wasn’t particularly memorable- but then we brought out the cute eggs (white chocolate with passion fruit was a standout) and marveled at the cute egg carton and nice decorations. At $30, the Easter eggs are a bit pricey, but there are nine pieces inside. The Giant Truffles run $25. Available online.
