Eco-Kitchen: Verterra Dishware
We love eco-friendly kitchen products here at Truly Obscure! It’s always exciting to see the innovative ways that companies are coming up with to meet the demands of consumers who want more than plastics and styrofoam. In the last few months we’ve reviewed juice in a biodegradable bottle, a scale made of hemp-plastic, and a cutting board made entirely from recycled plastic.
Today we’re going to show you a whole new way to do disposable dishes. Verterra has designed a whole line of esthetically pleasing, reusable, sustainable and biodegradable dishware. These dishes come in an array of sizes suitable for using as serving platters, as well as individual plates and bowls. All of their dishware can be used in the oven, microwave and ‘fridge (we found out the hard way that they don’t hold up quite as well in the dishwasher), and can be hand-washed and reused for a respectable amount of time.
We used Verterra for our entire Thanksgiving meal, and couldn’t have been happier with them. Not one soggy plate from juicy turkey! Everything held up well, even when piled high with food. This is not wimpy disposable dishware.They weigh in a bit on the pricey side, for disposable dishes, ranging from $7.99 for a 10-pack of 6” plates to $12 for a pack of 10X12” serving platters. However, if you’re interested in reducing your carbon footprint, and looking stylish while doing so, these are a worthwhile investment!
