Black and Decker's Pivot Floor Vac

Until fairly recently, vacuums were boring- staid, low-tech appliances that were heavy and bulky. But with the advent of devices like the Roomba and Dyson’s futuristic vacuums, suddenly the game changed. Which has allowed companies like Black and Decker to release new models with an eye towards design.

Their Cordless Pivoting Floor Vacuum offers modern styling, with an attractive color scheme, and even an easy-charge base. Light enough to carry around easily, with no bag to replace, the unit is still easy to clean. The PSV1800 offers 18 volts of cyclonic suction power as well an on/off motorized brush roll for use on carpets or hard floots- but the real killer feature is the pivoting nose that allows it to easily to sneak under beds or furniture. It also folds up nice and small to be placed in the charging cradle.

We confess that the first model we tried was faulty, but Black and Decker do offer a 2-year warranty. Available for around $100 (street), we did some durability tests and about the only issues we found were the occasional lack of charging connection when the vacuum is put into the cradle. This can be avoided by simply checking the light to see if the unit is charging properly.

Basically, the PSV1800 offers everything you could want from a floor vacuum- and is pretty sexy to boot.
