Yes, we realize it’s been months since our last Surf Report. Actually, we haven’t used the internet lately, because we’ve been, uh, too busy. So, yeah, that’s why.
Regardless, some really interesting things are happening out “there”. Several of them are groundbreaking ways to use the internet, beyond those that feature nudity, and a few of them are even potentially socially powerful. “Social change” isn’t exactly a buzzword here at Truly Obscure, but sometimes we just can’t help but want to make the world a better place. With that, may you live long and Prosper- this cool idea allows you to borrow or lend money. You set the rates and requirements, or list your needs, and can even start a group to bargain for better rates. It’s a neat idea- microloans are said to be one of the fastest ways to encourage growth in developing countries, and this is kind of a way to encourage person-to-person lending of a different type.
If starting your own mini-bank isn’t your idea of a good business plan, maybe you should be offering advice. Hey! You could start your own 900 number- but who uses those things anymore? Instead, check out Ether, an interesting new service that allows you to get your own phone line, set your rates and hours, and wait for people to pay to talk to you. Yes, it lends itself to those adult businesses, but could also come in handy for therapists, advice hotlines, and the like.
